Concierge medicine implies a practice model in which there is an intense focus on serving the patient well. Patients typically have increased access to the physician as well as to their nurse and critical administrative staff. This may mean cell phone access to the doctor after hours or email access for an online consultation, for example. Patients with urgent care issues are able to be seen by their doctor within 24 hours of calling the office (often sooner). Office visits run on time and are as brief or comprehensive as is necessary for the individual patient. The office environment is pleasing, welcoming, and healing. In a concierge practice, the emphasis is not on seeing as many patients as possible but on providing the best possible care for those enrolled in the practice.
